FAQs
- Will the Surgeon Action fit in a 700 stock and accept the 700s trigger etc.?
- Yes, the Surgeon action has the same foot print as the 700, however, you do have to relieve out for the bolt stop. The 700's recoil lug is 3/16” and ours is 1/ 4” so you might have to remove material for this. McMillan is currently inletting stocks for the Surgeon action. It will take any trigger that will fit into a Rem.
If you order a Jewell, tell them you want the HVR with safety lever and no bolt release.
You will save a couple dollars with out the bolt release (which you don't need). - Does the action need to be trued?
- No, every surface of the action is machined after heatreat with CNCs and EDMs using fixtures ground and indicated in within .0002 (two ten-thousandths of an inch). This is as good as it gets.
- What accuracy results have you found with this action as compared to a Trued M700 action? Better/worse/the same?
- As good or better. There are 700's out there shooting less that 3/8”. This is as good or better than most people can shoot.
- Is the diameter of the bolt larger or smaller than a 700?
- They are the same with the exception of the back ¾” of ours. Ours is a little larger here to promote better alignment for better accuracy. We kept the reliability with an increase in accuracy by doing this.
- Do your actions have the same barrel threads as the 700?
- Yes they are both 1-1/16 x 16tpi. With our action you get an extra thread tenon due to the recoil lug being integral to the action.
- What is the weight of your action?
- The repeater weighs 2lb 2oz and the single shot weighs 2lb 6oz.
The XL repeater weighs 3lb 2 oz and the XL single shot 3lb 6oz - Do you offer a non-tapered scope base?
- No. With the 20 moa taper you should have enough adjustment in your scope to be able to shoot from 0 to 1000 yards. If your scope is optically centered, dial down 20moa and you should be within a couple inches at 100 yards.
- Up to what length barrel do you feel your action would support?
- Other actions are currently supporting 28-30” barrels. They are doing this with their scope rail being bolted on by little #6 and #8 screws. With the intrigal scope rail on the Surgeon action, the stiffness should be stronger and more rugged than anything out there.
- What port options do you have?
- Right port. Our port is 1/8” longer than the 700's. (We are working on a Left port, right eject Target model to be availible in the future.)
- Is this a Casting?
- No, the action is machined from a solid bar of aircraft grade 4340.
- Does this Action have an oversize recoil lug?
- Yes the standard is 3/16” and ours is 1 / 4”. This increases the rigidity and number of treads creating a stiffer barrel/action setup than the actions that have a separate recoil lug.
- Will the bolt stop pin wear out?
- No. The pin keeps the bolt stop from coming out. All of the shock is taken by the bolt stop when it bottoms out on the action. The pin takes no shock.
- Is the action reliable enough for Police/ Military operations?
- It has the reliability of the trusted and proven 700 systems the military and police are currently using. The Surgeon action also has the advantage of having no screws to hold on the scope rail and a 1 pc bolt to prevent bolt handles from breaking under abusive situations. Our action is currently in use with multiple police agencies.
- Does the action come with trigger pins & everything?
- You will get a package with your action. In it will be:
Extractor
Ejector
Ejector spring
Ejector pin
Firing pin
Trigger pins
Bolt stop
Bolt stop spring
Bolt stop pin
